The desktop ActiveSync is an application that allows you to synchronize Microsoft Outlook data stored on desktop PC with a mobile device, such as PDAs and Smartphones installed with Windows Mobile or Windows CE. Outlook on desktop PC stores its emails, notes, calendars etc. in a file called PST (Personal Storage Folder). For several reasons, you may sometimes observe a Windows Mobile based device failing to synchronize with Outlook PST. One of the primary reasons among them is corruption in PST itself, for which PST Recovery is required.

To elaborate such problems, consider a practical situation when you try to synchronize a Windows Mobile based device with a PC for Outlook items. The synchronization might fail with an error message as below:

“Active sync encountered a problem on the desktop

Support Code 86000107.”

The similar behavior is observed each time when you try to synchronize.

Cause

The above issue can occur because of reasons as below:

Windows Mobile device has some issues

Partnership with the PC is corrupted

Few of the items being synchronized are corrupt

 Outlook PST is corrupted

Solution

To solve the discussed issue, you are suggested to follow these workarounds:

You can deselect all the items being tried to synchronize within ActiveSync, disconnect the Windows based device, and then resync with ‘empty list’.

In case of corrupted partnership issue, you should disconnect the device and then delete the partnership. You can then recreate it after reconnecting the device.

You can find out the problematic items by enabling synchronization one item at a time. To solve the issue, you can exclude the troubled items.

In case of PST file corruption, run Inbox Repair Tool (Scanpst.exe) to repair it. Make sure you enable the view of hidden files and backup your PST prior running the program.

In case PST remains corrupted despite running the Scanpst tool, your last resort is either to use your last backup or apply a third-party PST Recovery Software. These are scanning based tools designed to run a powerful PST File Recovery procedure that extract valuable emails and other items from a corrupted PST.

This PST Recovery Tool is an excellent utility that repairs corrupted PST and restores it as a new PST that can be directly imported within Outlook.
